iPhone 17 Air Could Feature Under-Screen Face ID Technology

Apple has recently patented a revolutionary technology that might remove the Face ID notch in future iPhones, such as the iPhone 17 Air. This innovation, which uses a transparent display, cleverly removes sub-pixels to allow the optical sensor to be placed anywhere on the screen, thus preserving up to 90% of the screen’s active pixels.
The under-screen Face ID feature was originally expected to debut with the iPhone 16, but Apple faced technical difficulties, leading to a delay. Now, rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 Air could be the first model to implement this under-display Face ID technology. This would also pave the way for a thinner and sleeker design without the need for a visible notch.
In addition, the iPhone 17 Air is rumored to feature a narrower Dynamic Island, a design that would create more space for the under-display sensor. Analyst Jeff Pu believes, however, that only the iPhone 17 Air and the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be equipped with the new technology and the reduced Dynamic Island.
